Product description

Common Worship: Pastoral Services offers liturgical material for the journey of each individual through life. For each key element of this journey (birth, marriage, healing, death), it provides both material for key ‘public’ events and resources for ‘private’ pastoral care.

It includes the services of Marriage, Funeral, Wholeness and Healing, Emergency Baptism and Thanksgiving for the Gift of a Child, alongside prayers for Ministry to the Sick and Prayers for Use with the Dying.

This second edition has been updated to include the full texts of the funeral psalms, the traditional language marriage service and the traditional language funeral service (the Alternative Services).

Author Information

Church of England

The Church of England uses two complementary sets of services authorised by the Church of England's canon law - Common Worship and the 1662 Book of Common Prayer. Common Worship (2000-2008) employs a more modern turn of phrase than the Book of Common Prayer, with vibrant images that seek to connect the biblical tradition with people's own experiences. It provides a common structure for Church of England services, but with a large variety of prayers, readings and resources that allow churches to tailor their services to their own setting.
