Pennar Davies, Diary of a Soul (translated from the Welsh by Herbert Hughes, Y Lolfa Press) is an extraordinary spiritual testament from one of the greatest Welsh Noncomformist thinkers and writers of the last century. I hesitate a bit to recommend it as I was asked to write the introduction for the translation – but it risks being overlooked because it comes form a small Welsh publishing house, and it shouldn’t be. It is intensely moving, honest and profound, one of those books to reintroduce you to the very idea of being a Christian.
