Emmaus: The Way of Faith is a course designed to welcome people into the Christian faith and the life of the Church. It aims to involve the whole Church in evangelism, the nurture of new believers and ongoing Christian discipleship.
Knowing God is one section of this material. Designed to deepen new Christians’ understanding of the basics of Christian doctrine it addresses questions like:
- How does God affect the whole of my life?
- What significance does the story of Jesus Christ have for my life?
- What part should the Holy Spirit play in my life?
It examines these issues through four short courses:
1. Living the Gospel (4 sessions)
2. Knowing the Father (4 sessions)
3. Knowing Jesus (4 sessions)
4. Come, Holy Spirit (4 sessions)
Knowing God is ideal as a follow on from:
- an enquirers’ group;
- a Nurture or Alpha Group;
- a new Christians’ group;
- a confirmation class;
- a refresher course for established Christians.
Each session has detailed leaders’ notes and fully downloadable (or photocopiable) handouts.
This completely updated and redesigned 2nd edition also includes a FREE CD-ROM that contains:
- all the session handouts and supplementary handouts as PDF files;
- Powerpoint presentations on Emmaus;
- useful links to Emmaus web site;
- complete Emmaus Resources Catalogue.
'As well as conveying essential teaching, Knowing God opens the door to a fuller experience of God. As such, it’s an excellent resource for moving Christians on from the first steps of faith to a deeper discipleship.'
Charles Freebury, Methodist Lay Missioner
The authors of Emmaus are Stephen Cottrell, Steven Croft, John Finney, Felicity Lawson and Robert Warren, all of whom are well known in the fields of adult initiation and discipleship. Although written by five Anglicans, Emmaus is used across the denominations.
